How does Arterial Stiffness measurement work?

The heart's contraction pumps blood to your aorta, Dilated blood vessels create pressure waves which help the blood circulate, and this is a pulse wave.

Huawei's watch uses ECG and PPG technology to detect your pulse wave and use PWV to evaluate artery stiffness.

Normal ( Low Risk)

Arteries are healthy and aren't too stiff. A normal pulse wave velocity is less than 8 m/s.

Eating smart and practising healthy habits are important for maintaining good elasticity.

Slightly stiff ( Medium Risk)

Arteries have significant loss of elasticity. This is a pulse wave velocity between 8-10 m/s. It's

a good idea to take measurements regularly to monitor the condition, increase exercise, and cut out smoking and drinking, as well as reduce sodium intake.

Stiff ( High Risk)

Artery walls have thickened and lost some elasticity, making the lumen narrower. A slightly stiff artery has a pulse wave velocity not less than 10 m/s. If this is accompanied by other symptoms, it's recommended to seek medical assistance and visit the doctor to have medical treatment.
